TVS Motor Company said Wednesday it sold a total of 287,058 motorcycles and scooters in May 2022, compared to 154,416 two-wheelers in the same month a year ago. The two-wheeler concern also reported that its domestic sales in May this year amounted to 191,482 units compared to 52,084 units registered in May 2021.

TVS said motorcycle sales increased from 125,188 in May 2021 to 148,560 in May 2022, while the company’s scooter sales rose from 19,627 in May 2021 to 100,665 in May 2022. However, despite the growth in both the motorcycle and scooter segment in May 2022, the company’s export volume decreased slightly in the domestic market. The car company said its two-wheeler exports last month recorded 95,576 units, compared to 102,332 units sold in May 2021.

While the automotive company’s overall sales increased in May 2022 compared to 2021, TVS argued that the semiconductor shortage had impacted the production and sales of its premium two-wheelers. The automotive company sells premium bikes such as Apache series motorcycles, Jupiter scooter, iQube electric scooter etc. The TVS iQube electric scooter sold 2,637 units in May 2022.

Speaking about the disruptions to production and sales caused by the supply chain crisis, TVS said it was working with alternative sources and taking various actions to improve supply as early as possible. He also says there has been some improvement in the past month. The automotive company further said in a statement that it was optimistic that volumes would return to normal levels as semiconductor supplies improved.
