The border town of Ferozepur is the cleanest town in Punjab, while Abohar is second, according to Swachh Survekshan-2022, the results of which were released on Saturday. Both contested in the category of cities with a population of 1 to 10 lakhs.

And in the national rankings, Ferozepur improved its position, from 76th last year to 64th this year, securing 4,645 marks out of 6,000.

Last year, Patiala was ranked 58th in the country and was declared cleanest in Punjab. However, this year the Royal City slipped to 117th position.

Ferozepur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amrit Singh said the credit for this achievement goes to the municipal committee and residents.

Abohar, however, has put up a spectacular show – from being the third dirtiest city in the country in 2020 to now being the second cleanest in the country with a national ranking of 78. Last year, the city was ranked 105th.

In the category of cities with a population of 1 to 10 lakh, SAS Nagar stood third in Punjab and was ranked 113 in the national ranking compared to 81 in the previous survey.

Overall Punjab was ranked fifth in the category of states with more than 100 urban local bodies. Last year was the seventh in this category in which 13 countries competed.

Bathinda also dropped to 132nd place compared to 84th place in 2021.

Out of 382 cities that fall under this category, Jalandhar was ranked 154th, Barnala 172nd, Hoshiarpur 191st, Pathankot 195th, Muktsar 196th, Malerkotla 198th, Khanna 245th and Moga 309th. secure rank 10.

Ludhiana slipped to 40th place among major cities

In the category of cities with population above 10 lakh, Amritsar secured the 32nd position compared to the previous position of 34th, while Ludhiana slipped to 40th position as against 39th last year.

Mandi Gobindgarh purest in north zone

In the category of cities with population between 50,000 and 1 lakh, Mandi Gobindgarh secured the first position in the northern region, while Fazilka was third and Rajpura at fourth followed by Zirakpur at sixth position, Samana at seventh and Harar at 10th. Last year, Rajpura topped the category.

Similarly, in the category of cities with population between 25,000 and 50,000, Nawanshahr topped the northern region, followed by Nangal at 2nd, Kurali at 3rd, Zira at 6th, Patran at 7th, Raikot at 8th and Jalalabad on 9th. Munak and Anandpur Sahib were ranked 1st and 2nd in the category of cities with population between 15,000 and 25,000 in the northern zone.
