Punjab Police has arrested a third operative of the ISI-backed terror module jointly run by Canadian gangster Lakhbir Singh alias Landa and Pakistan-based gangster Harvinder Singh Rinda, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said here on Saturday.

The arrested accused has been identified as Harpreet Singh alias Har Sarpanch of Jogewal village in Ferozepur.

The development came eight days after a counter-intelligence team led by AIG Jalandhar Navjot Singh Mahal busted the module by arresting its two operatives identified as Baljit Singh Malhi and Gurbaksh Singh alias Gora Sandhu, both residents of Ferozepur. Police also recovered one sophisticated AK-56 assault rifle along with two magazines, 90 live cartridges and two bullets from a location identified by Gurbaksh Singh in his village.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that following the disclosure of accused Baljit Malhi, the police team was able to arrest Harpreet Singh alias Khar Sarpanch, who is considered a close associate of Italian gangster Harpreet Singh alias Happy Sanghera and was also in touch with Canada. -based gangster Lakhbir Landa. Notably, Baljit was also in contact with Happy Sangera and only on his instructions, he collected a consignment of arms from a precise location on the Mahu-Lohian road near a shrine in a Sudanese village in July 2022.

During preliminary investigations, Harpreet Singh alias Har Sarpanch admitted that he had arranged a 10-day stay for an associate of Lakbir Landa identified as Jajit Singh alias Jota of Mehta Road in Amritsar and his assistant in an abandoned house in Mahu area of ​​Ferozepur. DGP, adding that Jota is facing four criminal cases and is currently lodged in the Central Jail, Amritsar.

He said the accused Har Sarpanch also revealed that he was in close touch with Nachathar Singh alias Moti – already arrested by the Tarn Taran police and was using his drug consignments in his blue BMW car. Relevantly, the BMW car was recently seized by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police.

Giving more details, AIG Navjot Singh Mahal said the accused Har Sarpanch was also collecting money on behalf of gangsters Lahbir Landa and Happy Sanghera to further provide financial assistance and logistical support to their associates. Further investigations are underway and more revelations from Har Sarpanch are expected soon, he added.

Relevantly, Canada-based Landa is considered a close associate of Pakistan-based wanted gangster Harvinder Singh alias Rinda, who has joined hands with Babar Khalsa International (BKI), and they have close links with the ISI. Landa played a key role in the rocket propelled grenade (RPG) terrorist attack plot at the Punjab Police headquarters in Mohali and also planted an IED under the car of Sub-Inspector Dilbagh Singh in Amritsar.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered under Sections 10, 13, 18 and 20 of the UA(P) Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act at SSOC Amritsar.
