Sangrur, October 22

Hundreds of employees, under the banner of Teka Moolazam Sangarash Morcha Punjab, have announced to observe “Black Diwali” as they alleged that the Punjab government has failed to fulfill their long-standing demand for regularization of their services.

These employees work in various government departments on contract, through societies and various companies.

They alleged that the government neither increased their salaries nor took any step to reinstate the removed employees. In the past period, they protested repeatedly, but they said that none of the government’s promises have been acted upon.

“On Diwali, our members will wear black, put up black flags in their houses and organize protest rallies to express our anger. The government has not fulfilled our demand for regularization of our services,” said Varinder Singh Momi, a Morcha leader. They also protested in the constituency of CM Duri this month and ended the protest after getting assurance from the higher authorities to quickly consider their demands.

“Though our meeting was arranged on October 28 with senior government officials, we have lost all hopes as we have not seen any action from the government,” Momi said.
