Director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran will be co-chairs and co-CEOs of Warner Bros. ‘ new DC Studios, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday. DC Studios is a new department of Warner Bros. that replaces DC Films and will oversee all DC Universe projects within film, TV and animation.

New Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has been looking for a counterpart for Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, courting people from various backgrounds in show business.

Gunn previously had a closer relationship with Marvel, making the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films before jumping ship to DC for 2021. The Suicide Squad – after being fired from the third Guardians of Marvel movie. (He’s back on that project, however.) Tuesday’s news also came just hours after the trailer was released for Gunn’s next movie. Special Guardians of the Galaxy holiday. For DC, Gunn also directed HBO’s hit show Max pacifierone of Polygon’s favorite shows in 2022.

While not a recognizable name like Gunn, Safran is a highly experienced producer who has worked with Warner Bros. many times over the past few years. Some of Safran’s early production credits include his work with DC horror director and veteran James Wan. Safran’s production work with Wan’s Conjuring Universe also prepared him for the kind of franchise management that will be key to his success in his new role at DC. Since then, Safran has moved across the entire DC universe, including Shazam! Gunn’s films and DC projects.

This is the latest hierarchy shift in the DC Universe, following the recent exit of executive Walter Hamada and years of turmoil prior to the acquisition of Warner Bros. (and later, including the infamous cancellation of Bad girl).
