The secret Star Wars the film project creatively led by Damon Lindelof was launched Sunday night when it was revealed that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who directed two episodes of Lady Marvelhe was on board as a helmsman.

The project has been in the works for months, and while Lindelof is receiving a share of attention from Wookiee, thanks in large part to a pedigree that includes co-creating sensational TVs Lost and leading the acclaimed HBO series Guardianshe is by no means the only person involved in the project.

In fact if Lost And Guardiansas well as Leftoversanother beloved series created by Lindelof, they showed something, is that one of the writer’s main talents is to choose gifted collaborators.

The sources say so The Hollywood reporter that Lindelof is writing the new one Star Wars screenplay with Justin Britt-Gibson, a young and up-and-coming writer who served as executive editor of Guillermo del Toro’s vampire drama story, The stumpand wrote episodes of Starz’s The counterparta series dealing with parallel dimensions and interpreted by JK Simmons.

Britt-Gibson, however, arrives at work after a secret (it’s always secret with Star Wars, isn’t it?) the writers’ room that started coming together after this year’s Star Wars celebration. The room held a two-week session in July and at the table was Patrick Somerville, who worked with Lindelof Leftovers and then went on to create the buzzy Eleven Station; Rayna McClendon, a consultant producer on Lucasfilm’s own account Obi-Wan Kenobi and writer on the upcoming company Willow series; and Andy Greenwald, the creator of Rosario Dawson’s 2019 crime drama Briarpatch (of which McClendon was a story editor), among a couple of other writers.

Dave Filoni, a protege of Star Wars Creator George Lucas, who was involved in many of the shows, may also have been present.

After unraveling the story, Lindelof and Britt-Gibson played on keyboards.

Sources say the film project is intended to stand on its own, but if successful it could lead to more films. This plan goes against Lucasfilm’s previous development process, which saw the company trying to come up with new trilogies. Now, the studio seems to focus on stand-alone.

And sources claim that the story would unfold after the events of 2019 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, although it wouldn’t be a continuation of the Skywalker saga. It may, however, feature some of the characters from Star Wars trilogy made in the years 2010.

Disney has released a Star Wars a year from 2015 to 2019, but then Disney CEO Bob Iger acknowledged that he was too quick after the troubled Solo: a Star Wars story (2018) became the first Star Wars movie to lose money. Disney has paused hers Star Wars theatrical plans to follow The rise of Skywalkerwith the studio focused on streaming TV. The Mandalorian helped power Disney + and became its de facto flagship show when it launched in November 2019, a full year before Marvel Studios began producing more series a year to complete Lucasfilm production. by Lucasfilm Andor is currently streaming, with The Mandalorian returning for the third season in February.

Yet Star WarsThe big screen moves were closely followed. A Patty Jenkins Rogue squadron the film was supposed to be released in December 2022, but is now off the calendar and on the back burner. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is producing a film to be written Lokiis Michael Waldron, while Thor: Love and thunder director Taika Waititi has been developing his film for more than two years, with 1917 Krysty Wilson-Cairns writer writing.
