Three persons were arrested by forest department officials here on Tuesday and the tusks, weighing 9.46 kilograms, were valued at around 3 million pounds.
According to a person in Keejapasalai village, a forest department team here raided the Maniangudi tank near Kalayarkoil in Sivaganga district. As a result of the examination, two teeth weighing 9.46 kg were found.
Authorities have arrested three people in this connection, who allegedly bought the teeth from a man in Bangalore’s Rajaji Nagar and buried them in a water body. Taking money from the prospective buyer, they planned to sell the teeth that exposed the crime.
The three arrested are Jayakumar of MGR Colony in Tirupur district, Ganesh Pandian of Vadamalaikurichi in Virudhunagar district and Prabakaran of Ramanathapuram district.
Forest officials seized the teeth and also the vehicle used to transport them from Bangalore. Further investigation was conducted.
