35 nationalities celebrate Diwali at Canadian International School

Bangalore, October 22, 2022: As a tribute to its renowned spirit of multiculturalism and diverse communities, students from over 35 nationalities celebrated the Festival of Lights at the Canadian International School (CIS) Bangalore with joy and traditional fervor. It was amazing to see students, parents and faculty from all over the world dressed in their best Indian festive attire, dancing on stage and giving amazing performances.

As part of the multifaceted celebrations on its campus, teachers and students came together to unleash their creativity and create designs for paper lanterns and beautiful rangoli designs.

“It was wonderful to learn about the festival, which is new to all of us, from our own children. Because they learn and do everything in school, they come home and teach me about it. I find it very special.” said Lindsey, an American parent.

“It was exciting for us 12th graders to be on the show until we all graduated. I learned these dances when I lived in America, but I could not perform them in India. This is my first performance in India and it means a lot to me. – said Iris, a 12th grade student, performer of the CIS Diwali show.

Shweta Sastri, Managing Director, Canadian International School, Bangalore: “We were delighted to see the festival being celebrated in such a grand manner, especially after the hard work of the students to make the festival a success. The multicultural environment gave the school campus a vibrant feel and the diversity was wonderful to experience and witness. CIS is a culturally rich mosaic and it is very important for us to embrace the diversity in our society and celebrate various cultural festivals together in India and beyond.

Diwali, the ‘festival of lights’, is one of the most important and colorful festivals celebrated across the country with much fanfare, traditional auspiciousness and rituals. Diwali is celebrated to celebrate the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. Canadian International School celebrates many festivals to enhance the social and cultural development of the community in a multicultural environment.
